Since the beginning of the year I have been on a real food lifestyle meaning that I have been eating less processed food, refined carbohydrates and sugar. It has had a positive change in my life and I’m glad that I started this lifestyle. As part of my research into eating real food, I came across this book: Food Rules An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan, a food journalist. This book gives 64 “rules” of how to eat for your health and which types of foods one should be eating. It’s not a science book, so it doesn’t delve into science of food, it’s simple everyday guidelines to get you on the right track.

I read this book in 1 sitting, it’s a simple read which is thought-provoking and laugh out loud funny. I’ve taken a few of my favourite guidelines from the book that I have been trying to incorporate into my life:

Food rules: an eater's manualIn most cases, the number of ingredients are an indicator of the amount of processing that a food had undergone. More ingredients…more processing.

We all know that filling stations are not the best places to get healthy food, which is why when I went on a roadtrip to Cape Town, I packed my own healthy snacks from home.

hahahahah! I laughed out loud at this one – I just pictured myself at the Chicken Licken drive thru.

What are some of your food “rules” that you follow?

*Again, these aren’t hard and fast rules that we should all follow to live a long healthy life, they are just guidelines

We’re in the same boat with regards to breaking the rules! Healthy eating helps a lot, I realise how lethargic I feel after eating a lot of not so great food.
