My hair routine is finally getting to where I want it to be: predictable. I know that sometimes in the world of natural hair and natural hair blogging, predictable can be seen as boring, but I am so happy to be here. The one place where I can be creative are my hairstyles and as my hair is growing longer and my flat twisting skills improving – I am getting much, much better with hairstyles. Let’s see what my hair has been getting up to in February.
It’s a new year – well it has been for the past month now :). In this time of the year, I like to set yearly goals for my hair and a general theme of what I want to do with my hair for the year, and for 2017 it won’t be any different. Although, this coming year I will have limited control of what my hair does because of my pregnancy and possible post partum shedding that I might experience – I still want to set some goals that will help me go through the phase as smoothly as possible. Along with that, in this post I will go through a bit of how my hair has been since my last hair update.
I was very excited for November to come along because, the end of November marks my 1 year anniversary rocking my natural hair! My hair has definitely grown since I big chopped, but I still feel like I am not at the length that I want to be. One of the downsides of big chopping earlier in your transition is that you have to work at retaining length. I feel that people who do long transitions retain more natural hair length because most of the damage occurs at the line of demarcation. Anyhoo, both methods of going natural have their pros and cons – no one way is perfect.
Another month end, another hair update; in September, I had my hair out for most of the month – which had its pros and cons. I tried out some new haircare products and also managed to do some weekly styling with my lover hair. The longer my hair is getting, the better it is to style – I like this alot! Let’s see what else happened to my hair in September.
Spring is knocking! Yay for the new season! I have not done much to my hair this month, I have been on a low manipulation roll. I have had moments when I have missed my hair so much and thus I am planning to have my hair out for a few weeks once I take the protective style out. Let’s see what else hair-wise has happened with my hair this month.
I have settled nicely into my protective style routine for the winter and I intend to keep with it until the spring. This way, I get to have my hair hidden several weeks and I give myself 2-3 weeks off to enjoy my hair and style it to my heart’s content until I have to hook up another protective style. I think what is making it easier for me is that I can now do crochet braids by my damn self (one of the best things to come out of 2016 thus far), that cuts out the headache of going to find a hairstylist. Let’s see what my hair was up to in July.
We are halfway through the year, and this means that we are deeply in the throes of winter on this side of the world. Thus I have had my hair in a protective style so I can keep my hair hidden and simultaneously buy myself 10 minutes extra sleep time because I don’t have to do my hair in the morning… score!
It’s the end of the month and it’s time for my hair update for may 2016. After having my hair locked away in a protective style for 5.5 weeks, I was very excited to have it out this month. I had racked up a long list of styles/techniques that I wanted to do with my hair and I couldn’t wait to get to doing all of them. I did experiment quite a bit and my hair suffered with all the manipulation that came with the experiments, I need to be more careful next time.
This month was fairly uneventful when it came to my hair, I have been protective styling for nearly the whole month. I did not do much to my actual hair, it was well hidden under the crochet braids. This was my first protective style since going natural, I must say that I am pretty proud of myself for keeping the PS on for 5 and a half weeks. I did miss my hair terribly towards the end and I was itching to uninstall.
I’m back with a hair update for the month on March. One thing that stands out this month is that I can finally see that my hair is growing! I’m sooo happy. I even tweeted that natural hair is a silent grower, it grows on the down low, it seems like you wake up one day with a head full of hair! My hair is currently in a protective style, it feels so good to have it put away for a bit. I don’t have to worry about it on a daily basis.
