    my foundation collection

Foundation for women of colour South Africa

Foundation is the ultimate base for a flawless makeup look. I’ve used countless foundations since I started wearing makeup in 2014 but I’m at a point where I’ve found the best ones for my foundation collection which I love and wear regularly. I made a decision in 2017 that I’m going to stop buying foundation from the lower end of the price spectrum and rather save up to buy high end foundations. If you want to know the reason for this decision you can watch this video where I go into a bit of depth about my reasoning. Read more…

    6 months postpartum shedding update

    postpartum shedding natural hair

I haven’t written much about my hair on the blog recently, this is because I haven’t been doing much to my hair to really chat about here. If you didn’t know, I have been experiencing postpartum shedding for the past 4 months – basically my hair is a mess. In order to go through this phase as seamlessly as possible, I have chosen to keep my hair hidden under protective styles. My current protective styles of choice have been wigs and crochet braids, both are very simple to maintain and give me access to my hair. Read on to know a bit more about how my hair is doing.

decluttering my hair products stash… here’s what’s leaving

    hair products swap

I am attending a hair event in Durban this coming weekend – I am keen to see what they have in store for us as this is the first hair event I will be attending. When I found out that there is going to be a hair products swap booth at the event I was so happy because I really need to get rid of some hair products. One of my goals for last year was to find my staple hair products and stick to using them, I was really over being a product junkie. To this end, I have a few products in my stash that I have either bought or were sent to me that weren’t really working for me and these are the ones that I am giving away. Read more…

Pregnancy & postpartum: how my hair handled this phase of my life

One of the worries that I had during my pregnancy was how it was going to affect my hair. I know, I know, it seems so trivial that whilst going through one of the most life changing experiences of my life, I was worried about my hair. Since starting my healthy hair journey, I had read about how pregnancy hormones affect hair growth and the devastating effects of postpartum shedding. That is why I was dreading this change from the beginning. I am currently about 8 weeks post partum, I don’t think that I have gone through the worst bits of postpartum shedding. However, in this post I want to share how my hair was during my pregnancy and how it is currently. Read more…

how to // trim 4c natural hair

    Trimming 4c natural hair

Trimming ones hair is one of those unfortunate things that need to happen if you want to maintain healthy ends and healthy looking hair. When I had relaxed hair, I hated trimming my hair because it equated to a loss in length. Since becoming natural, I have become the opposite, in the beginning of my natural hair journey, I was so scissor happy – luckily that has died down now. I recently trimmed my hair and I have decided to share the knowledge of the whole process.  Read more…

    hair products haul and empties

    hair products haul and empties

I haven’t done one of these hair products haul and empties posts in a while because honestly the movements in my hair products stash haven’t been that interesting. I decided that in 2016 I will pin down my staple products, and I achieved that goal. Thus, this meant that I really didn’t buy that many new products and those that I did buy were mostly replacements. However, I have finally come to a point where I have finished quite a number of products that can constitute a meaty empties post. If you want to see which products I have finished, which I will be replacing and which new products I have bought…keep reading. Read more…
