I decided to feature proteins and ceramides in this wash day in anticipation for getting my hair braided. My last wash day was a bit of a disaster with the tangles and matting, so I wanted to give my hair some much needed TLC this time around.

[1] I pre-pooed using LOreal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Masque with Restoring Serum I mostly use oils to pre-poo but I decided to try out this masque because it has proteins and ceramides which was the theme of this wash day. I pre-pooed for a total of 30 minutes, 15 mins with heat, 15 minutes without. This made my hair feel so conditioned – I kept on forgetting that I still had to shampoo and DC my hair – my hair felt that good.

[2] Shampooed using Body Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo – I am running out of this shampoo, it’s very good but I am still deciding whether to repurchase or try another one from the range.

20141120_192239[1] [3] The first conditioner I used was Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner – its packed full of proteins. I had this in my hair for a total of 45 minutes, I spent 20 of those under my drier. This conditioner made my hair feel smooth, even though it is protein heavy, my hair wasn’t too hard.

[4] I then applied Dabur Vatika Deep Conditioning conditioner and left it overnight

[5] In the morning *I woke up extra early this time* I rinsed out the conditioner, wrapped my hair in a cotton t-shirt for about 20 minutes and applied my leave-ins Motions CPR Triple Action Leave-In Conditioner and Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner and detangled which was such a breeze this time around *hallelujah*

[6] I sealed all of that with some coconut oil. My hair feels all kinds of good and I am a happy camper

I had a good wash day, I feel like my hair is prepared for braiding, it’s both strong and moisturised. The star of this wash day definitely has to be LOreal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Masque with Restoring Serum.

Glad this wash day went well for you. The Beautiful Textures Leave-in is quite slippery. I find the smell a nit strong. What type of braids are you planning to get?

Hey Uzoma, I am planning on getting box braids

  3. Sounds like a good wash day! I am still trying to figure this protein/moisture balance. Are you doing the braids yourself? I will be installing yarn wraps in my daughter’s hair next week so I guess I need to follow your lead and get her hair prepared for them.

I came by way of Saving Our Strands and look forward to following your journey. Be blessed!

      Thank you!

I find that doing a protein treatment before I braid helps my hair a lot with strengthening my hair

  4. I love overnight deep conditioning! How did it affect your hair? Do you think that you’ll do it again?

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

      Hey KLP,

I will definitely deep condition overnight again, my hair felt so soft in the morning!

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂
