Since my last day I have been moisturising and sealing my hair every other day – I have been protecting my ends in either a bun or folding and tucking them in then securing with a bobby pin. I have used my leave in conditioner (Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner) to moisturise because I ran out of my usual moisturiser and the shop where I bought it doesn’t stock it anymore 🙁 – so I am open to ideas for a new moisturiser.

Anyhoo, during the week I noticed that I was losing a lot of hair, everytime I ran my fingers through my hair in the evening, I would come back with much more hair than I expected, the bright side is that most of the hair was shed hair. That is why I have decided to start with tea rinses again so I can hopefully stop the shedding in its tracks!

Here is what I did for my wash day:

[1] Did a hot oil treatment as a prepoo using coconut oil. I prepooed using heat for 30 minutes

[2] Shampooed using Aunt Jackie’s Oh So Clean Moisturising & Softening Shampoo

[3] Sprayed a mixture of chai and chamomile&rooibos tea to my scalp and hair, I let it sit for 15 minutes. The tea made my hair a bit hard, but I didn’t mind much because I was going to DC afterwards

[4] I applied AphoGee  2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor to my ends, hairline and nape ( I am trying out protein layering for the first time to help strengthen these parts of my hair). I then applied a mixture of Dabur Vatika Black Seed Hair Mask Treatment Cream, glycerine and my JBCO oil mix. I deep conditioned for 30 minutes using heat and I had to run some errands, so I let the DC sit in my hair for another 3 hours.

[5] I rinsed off and t-shirt dried

[6] Once my hair was sufficiently dry, I applied my usual leave-ins Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In Conditioner and Motions CPR Triple Action Leave-In Conditioner

[7] I applied some coconut oil to the hair and sealed all that using olive oil.

I did my go-to fold over, tuck and pin ends do, I will keep my hair like that for the rest of the week.

I also gathered up all the lost hair: shed and broken from my prepoo finger detangling and after leave-ins wide-tooth comb detangling. I plan to compare each week and see if the tea rinses are helping me or not.

I hope the tea rinses help. What moisturizer do you normally use?

  2. Lungi

I’ve been using Strength of Nature Profectiv Daily Leave-In Strengther for when my hair is out, and I usually make my own spritzes when I have a protective style.

Nice! your hair looks really shiny and healthy – wash day success! yayness 🙂 Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave-in is a nice leave in conditioner. Aloe vera juice spritzes are good too – I believe Naptura85 on youtube has a diy recipe

I can’t remember the last time I did a tea rinse, but I have not been shedding as much lately. I love how you tucked your ends away

      Thanks girl!
I really hope these tea rinses work for me, my shedding is out of control.

  5. Oh! That reminds me that I need to get back into my tea rinses! Don’t you hate it when you can’t find your staple products?!? Grr…It’s like starting over all over again. That’s why I’m a hoarder. LOL.

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica

It’s so irritating! I will definitely buy 2 or 3 next time I find it at the shop.

hey, do they have Aphogee in SA or do you buy online? because I have beeen looking for it

    1. Lungi

I bought mine overseas, I think you can get it online in SA, try the Ruutos store.

Prepooing is the only way I use coconut oil now. My 4c hair does not like it when I use it to seal my ends. My wash day was simple.
