It’s Travel Thursday! Whoot whoot! With everything that has been going on in Burundi lately, I felt it the time to share about the time I spent there in 2009. I was in the capital city Bujumbura for a week. The main reason I was there was to attend a wedding and of course check out the sites and sounds. It was the first time I had flown so far out of South Africa *eek* – I was so nervous about a 4.5 hour flight, I thought I was going to be fidgety the whole time. All in all, the trip was such a fun experience!
We flew in via Kigali, Rwanda where we arrived at 4am and our 45 minute connecting flight was 12 hours later, so we were booked in a hotel close to the airport. We didn’t see much of Kigali at all which was a bummer.
Finally arriving at Bujumbura airport to a warm welcome from the groom’s family. Luckily when it comes to visas, we were able to get an entry visa at the Bujumbura airport. At that time (2009) the visa fee was US $80.
Unfortunately the country has a history of civil wars and remnants of those times still remained in Bujumbura
Rush hour traffic in Bujumbura, I am so glad that I did not have to drive
The place where we stayed during the course of the week. They served us the yummiest omelettes every day and some good coffee
The main hangout spot, I think we were here almost every night! It’s a beautiful restaurant by the beach.
Bora Bora by day… I mean!

My week in Bujumbura was filled with such good times, I look back fondly at the memories.
