I have been a fan of nail polish for as long as I can remember, in fact having my nails painted was one of the things that got me into trouble while I was still in high school; talking and eating in class being the other ones! I have always been trying to look for ways to make my DIY manicures and pedicures pop and for them to last through the week. I’ve bought 2 products lately to help me with my lifelong mission of awesome nails.

I bought the Essence Colour Booster Base Coat (R30) and the CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat (R220). With both products at hand, I was sure to get a winning, long lasting manicure.

Essence Colour Booster Base Coat

The base coat is white, so it gives both protection for your nails and makes the nail colour pop once applied. I really liked this, because in the past I used both a clear base coat and white nail polish before applying my nail colour. So having a product that does both is a win win situation.

With base coat and without

I wanted to show the difference between applying the base coat and not. It is evident that the nail colour with the base coat is more solid. I used this nude-ish nail polish because I usually struggle to have it really show up on the nail without having to apply multiple coats.

I wish I had a good story to tell about the Vinylux Weekly Top Coat, I find that it works sometimes and sometimes not. It has worked on some of my manicures before, in that my manicures were still in tact 5 days after application. It’s a pity though for such a pricey product, it should work *all* the time.

bought this the other day. its great as a base coat but it can’t handle the black hands. one hand washing load and the whole thing cracked. *sigh*

Giiiirrrlll, that is the eternal struggle with nail polish! I’ve even resorted to using gloves when doing the dishes to prevent it from chipping. But ke you can’t do laundry with gloves

It’s a struggle to find a top coat. I’ve used both essence and sally hansen, the latter being more pricey. However I find that for me the essence top coat works better, the gel vesrion. Getting the manicure to last more than a week is still elusive though.

True that! Our manicures would last forever if we didn’t do anything with our hands like washing dishes etc. . I’ve tried the Sally Hansen one & found it to be very gloopy, maybe I applied too much of it.
