We are halfway through the year, and this means that we are deeply in the throes of winter on this side of the world. Thus I have had my hair in a protective style so I can keep my hair hidden and simultaneously buy myself 10 minutes extra sleep time because I don’t have to do my hair in the morning… score!

With my hair being in a protective style, there is not much to report for this month. So I thought that I can recap my hair goals that I made at the beginning of the year and see how I have done 6 months in. But first, let’s recap on my goals for the month of June…

  • Install a protective style Yes!
  • Keep my protective style through the month Yes!
  • Scalp massages twice a week Eish… this one is always a hard one. I didn’t make it again this time

So let’s move on to my hair goals for 2016

Staple products The aim here was to pin down my staple products and stick to them as long as they were working for my hair. I think I have managed to do that; my hair product stash is at the lowest it has ever been since the beginning of my hair journey, I pretty much use the same products on all wash days. I have been very successful thus far with regards to this goal.

Let my hair flourish Here I wanted not to do much to my hair and just let it be. I have come to realise that letting 4c natural hair be means that it becomes single strand knot central. So even though I haven’t been letting my hair be, the bit of manipulation that I have been doing is helping it in a way.

Protective styling I had planned to use protective styling to my advantage and keep my hair away when I foresee busy periods in my life. I have managed to do 2 long term protective styles since the beginning of the year. I am so grateful for my current one because currently my schedule is tight and if I had my hair out, I would be stressing right now. I have yet to master the art of 1-2 week long protective styles; I am so keen on doing those.

Partake in hair challenges I haven’t done this goal any justice and I feel quite bad about it. If you guys know of any cool hair challenges currently happening or if you are in one, please let me know. I would love to check it out.

My hair goals for 2016 were pretty general and if you guys notice, I do not have any length goals; I do believe that the way my goals are set up will help me with retaining length anyway and I did not want the added stress of trying to reach a certain length by a certain time. Don’t get me wrong, I do believe in length goals, but as this is my 1st year of being natural, I did not want that length pressure because I am still in the learning phase when it comes to my hair.

How are your hair goals for 2016 coming along?
