My boo and I had our umembeso on the 26th of November 2016, after months of planning, stress and overall being tired – the day finally arrived. Umembeso is one of the functions that need to happen in the process of getting married as a Zulu person, it usually happens after the lobolo has been paid and it involves the groom bringing gifts to the bride’s family.
First things first, the photographer of the day was Lethu (find her on Insta here), she did such a great job, I am so happy with the pictures. My other suppliers were local and they were awesome and kept up with me changing my mind ever so often and not being sure of what I wanted. My family was wonderful, I delegated a lot of activities and they executed to the tee; my mom did the most of the groundwork at home, my aunt and brother helped me with the stuff that I had to do in Durban. My best friend was a god sent in the last few days before the function: she drove me around, managed the to-do list, overall calmed me down and put things into perspective when I was starting to freak out. A huge shoutout to all my friends who travelled far and wide to come help us celebrate our day – one of my friends came in from Gaborone, Botswana! My in-laws for welcoming me into their family, and of course to my boo, none of this would have been possible without him!
I did vlog the preparations for this function and I had someone vlogging for me on the day – it would be very hypocritical of me to be vlogging other children’s functions and then not doing mine. I had someone vlogging for me on the day, my friend Lebo also vlogged at the function – you can check out her footage on her Youtube channel.
Let me stop yapping and show you guys some photos from the day. Enjoy!

Everyone laughed at us when he was helping me to get up from icansi 😀 – I’m tall and pregnant, getting up from sitting on the floor is not something I can do by myself!
