I have been travelling quite a bit recently and thus have spent sooo many long hours in planes. Being comfortable while on a plane will make your travel so much better, trust me on that one. You want to arrive healthy, happy and refreshed at your destination. There are a few items which are absolute essentials on a long-haul flight, these are my ride or dies or fly or dies, hehehe. So the next time you’re on a long-haul flight, make sure you have these items and your journey will be set. I’m writing this post on board a flight from Johannesburg to Entebbe in Uganda, I have all my in-flight essentials and I am enjoying the journey.
Headphones
These help to pass the time in those long boarding queues when I just want to zone out. I love how headphone just give the “don’t bother me” look. The ones I currently own were a Christmas present from me to me 😊, I love that they have Bluetooth capabilities so that I don’t have to worry about wires.
Moisture products
The humidity on an airplane is set at between 2% to 5% which is super dry. So imagine being in those conditions for >8 hours, things get dry very quickly and stay that way until you land. I make sure to carry heavy duty hand lotion and lip balm anytime I fly. On long haul flights I do a whole skin care routine, I will have a post about my in-flight skincare routine coming up soon.
Books and magazines
As much as I do most of my reading on my iPad now, I do like to carry hard copy books and magazines on flights to keep me entertained during take-off and landing when you aren’t allowed to use electronics.
Warm and comfortable clothing
I always fly in comfortable clothing, my choice being leggings and a tee. If I had it my way, I’d fly in pyjamas and no bra! To add to my comfort, I always bring a scarf, socks and a doek. I also don’t wear any makeup when I’m on a long-haul flight.
Snacks
If you’re flying long haul you will most likely get offered a meal on the plane but some of the meals on these airlines can be downright atrocious! I’m looking at you Ethiopian Airlines. It helps to bring your own snacks to munch on and fill you up will you reach your destination. Remember to only buy liquids >100ml once you’ve cleared security on international flights because you will be forced to drink it or throw it away at the security check.
There you have all my in-flight essentials… do you have any items that you cannot fly without?
A back pack as opposed to carrying a handbag. A cute stylish one to put your stuff in makes life so much easier plus leaves your hands free to handle the rest of your luggage with ease.
Oh yes, definitely I agree with that one. I always pack a foldable handbag to use at my destination and use a backpack when on the journey.
I also love to pack my own warm socks with rubber on the bottom for walking up and down the plane. I hate traveling in shoes on long flights,as my feet swell up.
