Doing my brows is easily the most time consuming part of my daily makeup routine especially when my brows are not groomed. So when I heard about the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel-Tint I knew I had to have it, it was going to be the answer to all my brow woes. I’ve been using it on and off for 3 months, since November 2018, and I’m at a point where I can share my experience with this product.
I bought the product while I was in Beijing, China – there is a stand alone Maybelline store in one of the shopping malls I went to and that’s where I picked it up. I can’t remember the price but I’m 100% certain it wasn’t more than R150.
Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel-Tint is exactly that: a product that you apply to your brows and is said to give you perfectly defined brows that are evenly tinted for up to 3 days.
I use the product as prescribed: I apply it to my brows in the desired shape and I leave it on overnight (the instructions say to leave it on for 2 hours). I actually don’t think leaving it overnight has any added benefit to the potency of the colour pay off it’s just more convenient for me to do it this way. In any case, by the time I wake up the product is half hanging from my brow and always gives me a fright!
Does it work though?
Before I give a verdict, please note that I bought the product in the shade Medium Brown which is the second darkest shade. If I had it my way I would have bought the darkest shade but the way things are set up in China, they don’t sell “complexion” products that cater for black people.
So on the real now, I do like this product, it’s so easy to use and it gives good results. Does my tint last for 3 days? No – this could be because I’m a thorough face washer (I always forget to avoid my eyebrows when I have this tint on) or because I didn’t get the right shade. For me after the second day the product starts to get very feint.
Not all is lost though because I do get 2 days of good brows that I don’t have to put too much work into getting, so for that I’d definitely recommend it.
Unfortunately this product is not available in South Africa yet, Almay does have a similar product but when I went to check it out at Dischem I didn’t see any shades that were dark enough for me to use.
So, what do you think? Would you buy the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel-Tint if it was launched in SA?

I would definitely buy this product. I’m all for saving whether it’s brow time in my morning routine or those trips to get my brows tinted at Sorbet. I hope it launches soon.
Oh yes, it will save you time & money. Hopefully Maybelline is listening to us
Definitely can’t wait to try out this product Lungi. I would buy it to possibly save time in the morning with my brow routine and the tint trips to Sorbet.
I wonder how this compares to the boy brow from glossier. I’m fascinated by eyebrow products, especially those that promise a good, natural brow without too much work.
Hhhhmmmm, I’ve never heard of the Boy Brow, I’ll check it out
