I never thought the day would come where I would be speaking about my love for an electrical appliance but this baby has captured my heart. I don’t even know how the idea to buy one came into my head but once it was planted I was like a dog with a bone. I finally settled on the Russell Hobbs Pressure Cooker.

For some background: I’m a full time working mom who likes cooking daily supper for my family. I’ve also gotten into running / going to the gym so my time in the evening is really stretched.

Time saver
The greatest thing about the pressure cooker is that it is such an awesome time saver when it comes to cooking. I can cook dry beans in 35 minutes! (20 minutes if they have been pre-soaked). I can cook rice in 15 minutes and without worrying about the froth spilling over onto the stove top.

Rusell Hobbs Pressure Cooker functions

So many functions
There are countless cooking functions on the Russell Hobbs pressure cooker, I really doubt I’ll get about to using them all. I’ve become so savvy with it now that I can estimate the time required to cook my food so I don’t even use the functions anymore, I just input the time. I do however want to try making my own yoghurt – but this is a 6 hour process which I’ll probably only get to do over the holidays.

Favourite thing about this appliance
The pros that I’ve mentioned about this appliance already makes it a 10 out of 10 from me. My most favourite thing about it though is that I can leave it unattended while my food is being cooked – this gives me a chance to go for a quick shower or to play/read with Mpilo, and once I’m done I have a cooked meal with no mess and no fuss!

I use it at least once a week and some of the food I’ve made is: beans, rice, pulled pork, samp, oxtail, vegetable soup. If you want to see it in action, make sure to watch my #cookwithme series on my YouTube channel.

One thing I’d love to have with this pressure cooker is an extra pot so I can be able to cook 2 things one after the other without having to wash the pot.

I bought the Russell Hobbs Pressure Cooker from Takealot for R949 in July 2019.

Iam so much in love with it as well its so convenient ❤️❤️❤️the problem is that i cooked some trotters and the smell doesn’t want to go away. How do you wash yours

I wash it with normal dishwashing soap. Try filling it with warm water & add 2 tablespoons of bleach and let it sit for an hour. That’s how I get rid of smells in my Tupperware

I was sold at ‘cook dry beans in 35 minutes’. I don’t know why I’ve never thought to buy a pressure cooker but now I need it. Great review, Lungi!
