On Friday I spent my evening at the launch of Nomfundo Mcoyi’s Cookbook: Boardroom to the Kitchen. Nomfundo Mcoyi is the founder and CEO of Icebolethu Group, a conglomerate funeral business which needs no introduction. The launch was filled with family, friends, business associates of Nomfundo and there was a lot of love and pride in the room.
I love and am inspired by multi-faceted women who put equal effort in all their interests and Nomfundo is the embodiement of that woman. She worked on this cookbook during the lockdown which includes 90 recipes and stories of her rise from a school teacher to CEO of Icebolethu Group, a conglomerate comprised of 8 companies and employs over 1000 people.
You guys know I love cooking meals for my family and one thing that Nomfundo Mcoyi said about her cookbook that stood out for me: “This cookbook is for everyone, most ingredients required for the recipes you already have in your pantry.” I love hearty, easy recipes that do not require exotic ingredients that I’ll only use once.

The book offers readers a behind-the-scenes look into the entrepreneur, her life as a businesswoman and how the kitchen has been an integral part of her family life. Filled with her personal antidotes and essays, this cookbook relates the story of humble beginnings and how Nomfundo turned her dreams into reality.

More from Nomfundo Mcoyi on the launch of her cookbook: Boardroom to the kitchen: I am excited about sharing some insights into my life and how this has made me the person that I am today. I decided to share this journey through one of my great passions, food.
A meal should be so much more than just food, it is about family, community, sharing, and often a celebration, it also gives me the opportunity to break out of the corporate world and spend time with friends and loved ones.
I sincerely hope that this Cookbook will motivate anybody who reads it, to apply the simple recipes and to participate in creating the fond memories that are so often inspired by the comradery of happy diners around the table. Creating meals for my family, friends, colleagues and even clients is one of my greatest joys. I enjoy seeing people relaxed, enjoying a delicious meal and just doing life together.
Where can I purchase the book? Online from www.nomfundomcoyi.co.za; from Exclusive Books or from the Icebolethu Offices countrywide for R350.

The night was ended by an amazing performance by Simmy, who sang her well-known songs (my favourite being Sonini because this is my daughter’s favourite) and some from her most recent album.
