summer 2022 favourites

Starting this post on a cold front weekend where we’ve been eating warm food and napping. It’s crazy that just 1.5 weeks ago we were complaining about how hot it is. Here are some of the things that brought me joy in Summer 2022.

Edit I wrote this intro the weekend before the flooding in Durban – it’s insane how things have changed since.

Crocs
I took the plunge and bought Crocs in November 2022 and they really shone as my favourite shoes this summer. I don’t want to sound like a Crocs stan and share with you the millions of ways in which they are ah-mazing, you’ll just have to trust me. I love how I can customise them with Jibbitz. I am already looking into buying a second pair, a purple pair would be delightful.

Tik Tok
I started off as the typical older millenial when I first discovered Tik-Tok, I just couldn’t get the fuss and I wrote it off immediately. I don’t know how it happened but I am firmly on Tik-Tok now and even creating some videos. I love it as a social media platform where I’m not trying to monetise/grow etc. I’m just there for the fun of it and my videos are not super curated. Because my account is locked and I only have 8 followers I can share more openly about my family, work, etc. than I do on other socials.

Travel to Dakar, Senegal This was my first proper international trip in a very long while. It was my 3rd time in Dakar and I enjoyed it as much as my previous times there. It felt good to dust off my passport, be on the international departures side of OR Tambo as well as putting my French into practice. This time around, I spent over a week in the City attending the 9th World Water Forum. Here’s to more work trips as the world is starting to open up.

Long lost sunglasses I had lost these sunglasses for the past 2 years, for the life of me I couldn’t remember where I put them and it made me so sad. However, when I was packing my big suitcase my my Dakar trip I found them in one of the compartments. I was so overjoyed and immediately put them to use! I’ve been wearing them non-stop since and I look so cute in them!

Candle kit
I’ve always loved having and lighting candles around my house. What I didn’t know was that there was a way that one should take care of candles to ensure that they last longer and retain their scent. I learnt all about taking care of candles over on Tik-Tok and went and bought myself this candle kit from Mr Price Home. I just feel fancy using it and I’ve been getting better use and burn of my candles using the candle kit. The candle kit is currently out of stock at Mr Price Home – here is a similar one (at a higher price).

You’re so great at TikTok, older millennial! And I do think the key is that it’s just something you’re doing for yourself. Personally, I can’t stand the app lol.

I also just realised that you could wear crocs from January to December and that’s not fair!
