This year I’ve started a series where I am breaking down different aspects of skincare and delving into the real tea. I’ve done posts on micellar water and hydrating toners, this post is all about vitamin C in skincare. If you want a brighter complexion and to fight the signs of ageing, then this active ingredient is your fighter for sure!

What is it…
Vitamin C is a ingredient that is widely used in skincare. If you look at the ingredient list of a product, if it contains names such as ascorbic, ascorbate and ascorbyl – then that is the Vitamin C ingredient. Its claim to fame are that it increases collagen production (which has anti-ageing properties), brightens skincare and is an antioxidant.

Where it fits in your skincare routine & how to use it
As an ingredient, Vitamin C is found in skincare products like serums, moisturisers, masks and scrubs. I prefer using it in serums because I find that it’s more targeted in those products and it is in the concentrations that I want for my skin. It is recommended that Vitamin C products are best suited for used in the morning skincare routine as it is more effective when used with sunscreen. However, there are some products that prescribe night use and I follow that guide from the manufacturer.

The products that I have used…
I’ve used varying products that contain Vitamin C, if you click on each product you’ll be able to read more about each one. I am currently using the serum from Bioderma – I’m nearly finished with it. I’m quite intrigued by the capsules from Elizabeth Arden*, I haven’t used the product but it is high up on my to-buy list.
