5 things I do to quieten my mind

In this fast paced world we all (most) of us seek ways to quieten our minds. I first got a bite of a quiet mind when I started attending meditation classes and regularly meditating. I soon realised that there are other ways in which I can quieten my mind and focus on one thing. There are some of the things I like to do when I want to tap out for a bit of time.

Meditation
This is one of my favourite method to quieten my mind, it works like a charm once you get the hang of it. It took me a while (and a lot of practice) to be able to meditate, because as humans we are not used to focusing on one thing (the breath). There are days when I still struggle to do it, but on days when I get it right, it is magic. The key is to not have expectations and not to put pressure on yourself because those 2 always get the mind agitated.

Washing the dishes
I am one of those people who loves a good dish washing session; I get to concentrate on making sure that everything is clean and orderly. I really do get lost in the process and it helps to get my mind off things. And the satisfaction of a clean kitchen afterwards is the best.

Reading
I have recently rediscovered my love for reading – I slacked a bit for some years due to other things taking up my time i.e. technology. Since going back to reading regularly, I have reconnected with its ability to help me temporarily escape into another world and get lost in it. It is a great way to get away from whatever may be happening in your life and get lost in another person’s world.

Colouring
Another recent discovery is colouring in books for adults. I love pretty things – so this was right up my alley. I’ve had this colouring in book for a while now and I have been loving it. Who knew that doing something as mundane as colouring in could be so therapeutic. It takes me back to my childhood and it is such a great activity to get lost in.

Take a walk
When all else fails, I take a walk in my neighbourhood – I make sure to leave my phone behind so that I do not get distracted. It’s a great activity because I get some fresh air, vitamin D (on a good day) and some exercise!

So, that’s the things that I do to help me to quieten my mind, tap out of this sometime very hectic world and have time to myself.

Reading is definitely a great way to clear the mind. I am so nosy so a good dramatic novel usually does the trick for me. Cleaning as a whole relieves stress for me. Whenever I am at home and am not okay the house will be spotless

Reading clears my mind everytime (even though I ‘ve not read a book in two weeks, life just happened I guess).

Excersice(not everyday) and a bath afterwards is another thing I do to relax and clear my mind. The feeling afterwards is just amazing.

Lol, and here I thought that I was the only one who found washing the dishes extremely relaxing and calming! Thank you for making me realise I’m not alone in this one! πŸ™‚ This is a great post!
Definitely agree with the reading one too. I think every avid reader will πŸ™‚ I also take long baths and I find it extremely calming. I force myself to not think… Light a couple of candles and I sit in a dark bathroom with just light from the candle. It forces you to listen, in turn you’re not thinking about anything else.
